IAF Policy Call With Singapore’s Yeong Zee Kin – A Very Different Approach to Data Protection
June 10, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
To further discussion on models for data protection, the IAF is pleased to host a policy call on the pathway to accountability-based governance in Singapore. This policy call features an interview with Yeong Zee Kin, the Deputy Commissioner of the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) and the Assistant CEO of Infocom Media Development Authority.
Digital transformation is very important to Singapore’s future, and front and center in that transformation is data protection. On the PDPC website landing page is a rotating banner for the “DPO Competency Framework and Training Roadmap.” The update to Singapore’s data protection law includes a legitimate interests exception to consent that requires a comprehensive data impact assessment. Guidance to the law includes a chapter on consent with conditions for legitimate interests (see chapter 12 and annex 3).
Following a recorded interview with Mr. Yeong, the IAF staff will be joined by Gabriela Zanfir-Fortuna, the Director for Global Privacy for the Future of Privacy Forum, for a dialog on the interoperable model that is seen in Singapore.
Please join the call on Thursday, June 10 at the time specific to your area.
